This spot is about 28 kilo meters from city center and 8 kilo meters
from Bengaluru Mysuru National Highway. This tree is more than 400 years
old and is considered 4th biggest banyan tree after world's biggest
tree at andhra pradesh , kolkata and adiyaar tree at chennai. the tree
now lives without its main trunk. As typical to this species , the main
tree has spread out over several acrial roots. With thousands of such
acrial roots , tree area is spread out to 3 acres. the present crown of
the tree has a circumference of about 120 meters and highest branch
rises upto 95 feet.
A few years back , the primary main trunk succumbed to natural illness and now tree appears like a number of trees. One can walk along the hanging roots which creates a cool shadow environment. This tree is now being monitored and maintained by horticulture department of karnataka. This spot which also has a park is open for visitors from morning 10 AM to evening 5.30 PM .
