Good news for tech savvy Bengaluru metro commuters. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) , Namma Metro is adding more convenience for Metro users by introducing Ticket purchase options through its Namma Metro app and WhatsApp . Here is more details from its press release
Metro commuters who are having a smartphone can avoid hassles of standing in front of ticketing counters to purchase tokens. BMRCL mentions it is the first to introduce end-to-end ticketing system on WhatsApp in the Global Transit space.
Single Journey QR code tickets
Single Journey QR code tickets can be purchased online using below options
- Commuters who use Android based smartphone can use the Namma Metro App from playstore and register themselves
- Through WhatsApp chatbot. Commuters may save the official Namma Metro number 8105556677 and start the conversation by sending a Hi Message and purchase QR tickets . This chatbot is available in both Kannada and English languages for Android and IOS smartphone users

How to use the QR code based tickets at metro station
- Commuters may use any of the above options , purchase the ticket and get the QR code making payments via UPI
- The QR code ticket token includes a QR code image , transaction ID and the validity time
- At the metro station at the entry and exit gates , present the QR code in front of the QR code scanners which allows access
Discount , Validity , Cancellation of QR code tickets
- QR code tickets are offered at 5% discount over the token fare
- QR code tickets are valid till the revenue service of the day.
- Commuters can cancel the ticket if not used on the same day before validity expiry for which amount shall get refunded within few days
- At present only one QR ticket can be purchased at at time. Once traveled using active ticket , a new ticket can be booked
