Ancient Unique Hattiangadi Sri Siddi Vinayaka Ganesha Temple , Kundapura , Karnataka

Hattiangadi Sri Siddi Vinayaka Temple is a rare and spiritually resonant destination where history, nature, and devotion converge. With its unique idol, riverside setting, and centuries old legacy, it offers a deeply enriching experience for pilgrims and travelers alike.  

Nestled in the quiet village of   Hattiangadi  , about 8 km northeast of Kundapura in Karnataka’s Udupi district, the   Sri Siddi Vinayaka Temple   is believed to have been constructed in the   7th or 8th century  , during the reign of the   Alupa kings  . The temple stands gracefully on the banks of the   River Varahi  , surrounded by lush greenery and timeless serenity.

What makes this temple truly unique is its   idol of Lord Vinayaka  , carved from sacred   Saligrama stone  . The   2.5 foot high idol   is unlike any other in India—it features   jata (curly hair)   flowing loosely at the back, and a   trunk bent to the left  . Scholars believe the idol may be in a   standing posture  , with the   right hand hidden inside the basement   and the   left hand holding a vessel of Modakas  . The deity is identified as   Bala Ganesha  , with just   two arms  , adorned with intricate ornaments.

One of the most fascinating aspects is that the   idol is said to grow in size every year  , a phenomenon visible in how it has   outgrown its silver casting  . The entire sanctum is carved from   black marble  , adding to its mystic aura. The title   ‘Siddi’  , meaning “one who grants wishes,” reflects the deep faith devotees place in this form of Ganesha.

Just beside the Siddi Vinayaka shrine is the   ancient Lokanateshwara Shiva Temple  , adding another layer of spiritual depth to the visit. The presence of both Ganapathi and Shiva in close proximity makes this a powerful site for seekers of balance and blessings.

 

Open daily between 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM  . Prasadam , Free lunch is served to devotees as part of temple tradition  . Scenic route  , The drive offers   breathtaking views of the Panchagangavalli river  , especially from the nearby bridge  .  Wildlife moment  , During our visit, we were graced by the sight of a   stag crossing the road  , a gentle reminder of nature’s presence in this sacred landscape
