Government Museum , Bangalore

It was established in Bangalore  during 1865 , in Greeco Roman Style and is one of the oldest museums in India. Dr.Edward Green Balfour was the first officer in charge of the museum. It started functioning in a temporary building at Museum road , and was later shifted to a new building specifically designed for museum during 1877 on Sydney Road , which is now Kasturba Road.

It has a rich collection and display of archaeological objects , stone sculptures dating back to 16th century , bronzes , traditional paintings , Indian and Western coins , earliest Kannada Halmidi inscription  , copper plate records , arms and Armour , Wooden carvings , Musical Instruments etc

There is a minimal entry fee of Rs.4 to this museum and Venkatappa Art Gallery which is behind this museum. If you happen to visit to Cubbon Park , don't miss to spend few hours visiting this museum and indulge your mind with some mind blowing historic collections.
