BBMP - Street light complaints greivances . How to register and get it resolved

One of the most common problems residents in a society face and report is street light not working at their lane . Of all the complaints or grievances which we register with BBMP for resolution , this takes the first place.

Well the reasons may be quite obvious , street lights  are prone to electrical lines load shedding , time based operation changes , change in power lines during projects , short circuits due to external factors such as rain , thunderstorms , lightening etc .

In Bangalore , street lights are maintained by government body Bruhat Bengaluru MahaNagara Palike (BBMP) - under the Electrical Department who review complaints on below categories

  • Street Light not Working
  • Park Lights not working
  • Street Light Switched ON during day time
  • Open Electrical junction box
  • Earthing Issues related to Electric poles / Panel Boards
  • Requirement for new street lights

How to register a grievance for above and get it resolved

Option 1 : 

  • BBMP has a provision to collect customer grievances related to above through its very useful Namma Bengaluru BBMP Sahaaya app or on web portal bbmp.sahaaya.in  
  • Register to this portal using your mobile number and basic details
  • After login using One time password (OTP) , app presents various departments such as BBMP , BWSSB , BESCOM etc 
  • Select BBMP which present option to raise a grievance by selecting the category . 
  • For street light complaints , select category Electrical
  • Enter the details , choose the location , upload image or video of the spot , select BBMP Ward details , address where street light to be inspected and register the complaint
  • A grievance reference ID gets generated and the status of the complaint is by default REGISTERED
  • This complaint is then reviewed by BBMP customer care center & assigned to the first level . Junior Engineer (JE) of Electrical department who reviews the grievance and attends to the call
  • Details of JE Name and contact number will be visible on which they can be reached.
  • After the complaint is resolved,  JE updates the status of grievance as RESOLVED with comments.
  • If the complaint needs escalation then it gets assigned to next levels such as Assistant engineer and Executive Engineer.  We can followup with BBMP customer care with the grievance ID reference.
  • This method ensures a proper formal way of registering a complaint and getting it resolved and maintain account of all grievances.
Option 2 :
  • Call up BBMP customer care number which is listed on BBMP website for each zone

Option 3 :

  • Discuss and bring to notice issue in bi-monthly ward committee meetings which is at present held at all BBMP ward offices on first Saturday and Third Saturday of every month . In this meetings citizens get a chance to meet the executives of all BBMP departments.
  • Speak to your ward BBMP corporator who will be available at ward office or Ward committee members of your layout , write a letter to them and collect a acknowledgement . Collect details whom you want to followup for getting the issue resolved.
