Directed by debutant Sriraj and produced by Pushpa Arunkumar (mother of superstar Yash), Kothalavadi is a socially charged actiondrama set in a droughtstricken village on the banks of the river Cauvery. The film explores the devastating impact of illegal sand mining, political manipulation, and the erosion of conscience in the face of desperation. Set in the fictional village of Kothalavadi, the story follows Mohana (Pruthvi Ambaar), an orphan and daily wage worker, whose modest dreams with Anganwadi teacher Manji (Kavya Shaiva) are shattered when he’s pulled into the vortex of illegal sand mining. The operation is masterminded by Gujari Babu (Gopal Krishna Deshpande), a scrap dealer turned political aspirant, who convinces villagers that the sand belongs to them—not the government. As the villagers mortgage their lands to moneylender Lagori Kumara (Chethan Gandarva), and tensions rise with law enforcement led by SP Parashuram (Rajesh Nataranga), the village descends into chaos. The film chronicles this slow moral collapse, where survival trumps ethics, and rebellion is both a necessity and a trap.
