Sri Adi Shankaracharya Sharada Lakshmi Narasimha Peetam , HariHarapura - a divine destination

Located in the tranquil village of   Hariharapura  , just 20 km from Sringeri in Karnataka, the   Sri Adi Shankaracharya Sharada Lakshmi Narasimha Peetam   is a spiritual sanctuary that harmonizes ancient wisdom, divine presence, and natural serenity. Situated on the banks of the   River Thunga  , this Dharmapeetam is steeped in history — not only as a center of Advaita Vedanta but also as a site sanctified by the legendary   Sage Agastya  .

Hariharapura is recognized as a   Puranic Kshetra  , a sacred land praised in Vedic literature. According to tradition,   Sage Agastya  , one of the seven great sages (Saptarishis), visited this region during his spiritual travels. At a serene spot near the river, he is believed to have performed   intense penance   and was blessed with   Pratyaksha Darshana   (direct vision) of   Lord Lakshmi Narasimha  . This sacred site is now marked by the   Agastya Mantapa  , a small but spiritually potent structure that continues to draw seekers and devotees.

Centuries later,   Jagadguru Sri Adi Shankaracharya  , the 8th century philosopher saint and founder of   Advaita Vedanta  , established the   Sharada Lakshmi Narasimha Peetam   here. He recognized the sanctity of the site and its suitability for spiritual learning and dharmic propagation. The Peetam has since upheld an   unbroken lineage of Jagadgurus  , continuing the tradition of Vedic study, devotion, and service.

  •  Majestic Gopuram and Mini Mantaps   greet visitors at the entrance, reflecting traditional South Indian temple architecture.
  •   The towering   Istha Siddhi Anjaneya   idol, seated and approximately 20–25 feet tall, symbolizes strength and spiritual resolve.
  •   A   wide open space opposite Hanuman   serves as a gathering area for devotees and spiritual programs.
  •   The   main sanctum   houses   Lord Narasimha with Goddess Lakshmi  , radiating divine protection and grace.
  •   Beneath the sanctum lies the   Sri Chakra  , a sacred geometric symbol representing cosmic energy and spiritual awakening.
  •   Additional shrines include   Sharada Matha   (Goddess of Wisdom) and a sanctum for   Sri Adi Shankaracharya  , reinforcing the temple’s philosophical roots.
  •   The   Agastya Mantapa  , located near the riverbank, commemorates the sage’s penance and divine encounter.

The temple’s proximity to the   River Thunga   adds a layer of tranquility and sacredness. The gentle flow of the river, combined with the lush greenery surrounding the Peetam, creates an ideal setting for meditation, introspection, and spiritual rejuvenation.

Free prasadam   is offered daily to all visitors, reflecting the temple’s commitment to service and inclusivity.  Guest houses   are available near the matha premises at   nominal prices  , making it accessible for pilgrims and long term spiritual seekers.  Temple is open daily from morning 6 AM to evening 8.30 PM . The   Sri Adi Shankaracharya Sharada Lakshmi Narasimha Peetam   is not just a temple — it’s a sacred confluence of   Agastya’s blessings  ,   Shankaracharya’s wisdom  , and   Lakshmi Narasimha’s grace  . Whether you seek spiritual clarity, historical insight, or peaceful retreat, Hariharapura offers a timeless space for inner transformation. Do visit this spot and share your experience.
